Douglas James Larsen

Douglas James Larsen, 73, of Willmar, died Thursday, July 21st at CentraCare-Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. His graveside service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 29th at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Douglas was born November 15, 1948, in Willmar, the son of James and Elsie (Huisenga) Larsen. He grew up in Raymond where he graduated from high school in 1968. Douglas loved Raymond and was loved by everybody. Whether he was helping out at Raymond Meat Processing, riding in the trucks from Gunter Elevator, he just enjoyed being around town. He moved to Kindlehope in Willmar in 1977. He has worked for many years at Walt’s and was given the distinction of being, “Fastest Car Dyer in the West!” For the past several years he has been a resident of REM where he truly enjoyed living. Even with his limitations, Doug lived an independent and free-spirited life with a witty sense of humor. He enjoyed all the time he was able to spend with his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Roger Hauser, and their family. He taught their family how to be compassionate, understanding and empathetic to people with special needs. He was an avid sports fan, rarely missing a Vikings or Twins game.

Surviving are his siblings: Nancy (Bob) Jorgenson of Willmar; Sandra (Roger) Hauser of Spicer; Kim (Teresa) Larsen of Willmar and Michael (Heidi) Larsen of St. Louis Park and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, DeWayne and Bruce Larsen and an infant sister, Brenda.

Doug’s family would like to give a huge THANK YOU to all the staff of REM and especially his friend and caregiver, Jeff “Turtle” Skaalerud.

You gave Doug the best life anyone could ask for!
