Shirley Ann Nelson
Shirley Ann Nelson, 81, of Pennock, died Tuesday, December 8th at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Her graveside service will be 1:00 pm, Friday, December 18th at Mamrelund Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pennock. Funeral arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Shirley was born January 31, 1939, on the farm near Murdock, the daughter of David and Caroline (Davidson) Noor. She attended country school near Lanford, District 14 South, near Pennock, and graduated from New London High School in 1957.
Following high school, Shirley first moved to Minneapolis and eventually California where she work in the office for Douglas Aircraft Company. She also lived in Oregon for a short time before returning to Minnesota in the early 1970’s. Shirley was united in marriage to Richard Nelson in October of 1971 at Mamrelund Lutheran Church.
Shirley was always a hard worker, holding multiple jobs at the Willmar Regional Treatment Center, Rice Memorial Hospital and for a time was the custodian at Mamrelund Lutheran Church.
Her family remembers her care and concern for others and her family before herself, love of gardening and yardwork. She also was an animal lover, whether it was a cow, dog, cat, bird or any other of God’s creation, Shirley always enjoyed tending to and caring for them. Shirley also enjoyed playing bingo and a trip to the casino for a little gambling. She will forever be the family’s hero and superwoman!
Surviving are her children: Todd (and Glenna) Nelson of Murdock, Traci (and Paul Karr) Nelson of Pennock, eight grandchildren: John (and Michele) Nelson, Alysha, Ashley, Shayla, Trey, Mason, Kari and Nikki (and Jake) Stevensen; and six great grandchildren: Jonathan, Oah, Jameson, Aidah, Jazmyn, and Parker. Also surviving is her sister, Sandy Abell of Willmar and brother, Howard Noor of Pennock.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James and David and former husband, Richard Nelson.
