Una A. Reigstad, age 97, of Sunburg, passed away Thursday morning, January 7, at the Marion Manor in Sunburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the E. Free Church in Kerkhoven. Interment will be at West Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Una Adeline Reigstad was born on November 15, 1923, on her family farm in Arctander Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Alfreda (Lindgren) Henjum. She grew up and received her education in the rural Sunburg community. During WW II, Una went to work at Honeywell Inc. in Minneapolis manufacturing ammunition and ordnances. On November 15, 1949, Una was united in marriage to Kermit S. Reigstad. They lived and farmed along Swenson Lake near Sunburg. Una showed her love for others through her actions. From 1976 to 1994, Una worked as a home health aide for Kandiyohi County. Una later volunteered as a Senior Companion for numerous individuals and nursing homes, retiring at the age of 90. She was a life member of West Lake Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, ladies aide, church board and cemetery committee. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Over the years, Una enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s school and athletic activities. She also enjoyed gardening, sports and was very knowledgeable about history and genealogy. Una will be best remembered for how she loved people with her most valuable asset, her time.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (and Jerry) Nelson of Pennock; four grandchildren, Zach (and Rachel) Nelson of Paynesville, Tonia (and Doug) Finstrom, Josh (and Gina) Nelson and Jed (and Lindsey) Nelson of New London; and fifteen great grandchildren, Eli, Esau and Dia Linn Nelson, Isaac and Alex Call, Kierra Wendorf-Finstrom, Isaiah, Caleb, Jeremiah and Josiah Nelson and Addilyn, Ethan, Abram, Cannon and Olivia Nelson. Also surviving are two sisters, Delores Roen of Sunburg and Ramona Frank of Seattle, WA., besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kermit in 1999; one daughter, Patricia “Patsy”; seven brothers, Marvin, Orville, Julian, Elwood, Burton, Harold and Wilbur; and two sisters, Jeanette and Frances.
