It has been a full year since bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Patriots Day 2013. Three individuals were killed and more than 260 were injured.
The city continued on, rallying around the cry “Boston strong.”
In a stirring ceremony, according to published reports, Boston and its citizens paused Tuesday to remember and proclaim the strength of the city.
Vice President Joe Biden said “ … to the the terrorists, we will never yield. … We are Boston. … We respond. We endure. We overcome … and we own the finish line.”
The Boston Marathon is a renowned sporting event, the oldest continuous marathon in the world.\The 2013 bombing also made this marathon route hallowed ground for the survivors and the city.

The marathon bombing resulted in death and carnage, yet Bostonians responded instantly. Ordinary citizens rushed to the scene, began emergency first aid and evacuated survivors.
During the past year, the survivors have healed their wounds, gone through recovery and rehabilitation and restarted their lives.
They all remained Boston strong.
On Monday morning, 36,000 runners will line up for the start of the 2014 Boston Marathon and many more thousands of Bostonians will line the race route cheering on the runners.
Then 26.2 miles later, the tired and weary runners will cross the finish line and reclaim this marathon for all of Boston.
