Editorial: Kandiyohi County sets a good example

Kandiyohi County’s government once again is demonstrating how a local government entity can and should work in reinventing itself, its operations and reviewing how it delivers services.

The goal of the Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners and its administration is two-fold: increase the efficiency of the county staff and improve services to the public.

Those are worthy goals to deliver appropriate value and efficiencies to county taxpayers.

Basically, the county commissioners and the county’s administration continue to think outside the box, reviewing and embracing new ideas, and working with others.

This week the county hired a part-time facilitator for the next 12 months to coordinate the next phase of the county restructuring. This Phase 2 project involves the restructuring of the county departments housed in the Health and Human Services Building in north Willmar.

The county is also an engaged stakeholder in the Vision 2040 project, which is a community-wide effort focused on developing a strategic agenda for Willmar and Kandiyohi County for the next quarter of a century.

The County Board is composed a variety of political philosophies, but those commissioners know how to work together, understand compromise, value their staff and do not to fall prey to personal grudges or agendas.

We commend Kandiyohi County for continuing to set a fine example of good governance and seeking continued improvement.
