Kandiyohi County voters in District 1 and 3 will have their County Board races on the ballot on Nov. 4. Commissioner Jim Butterfield is seeking re-election unopposed in District 1, while Commissioner Dean Shuck is being challenged by Rollie Nissen in District 3.

Dist. 1: Re-elect Butterfield

Incumbent Commissioner Butterfield is seeking re-election for the first time, since his 2010 election win over former commissioner Richard Falk. He has fulfilled his promise made prior to the last election to have a booth every year at the Kandiyohi County Fair to listen and talk with people.

Butterfield, 59, has fit in well on the County Board. A retired salesman living in Willmar, he is respectful at the board and appreciative of staff. He walks his talk as he volunteers at the Kandiyohi County Jail and in other capacities within the county. He is able to make decisions and not take it personally when the board majority chooses a different path. He has served as chairman of the board during 2014.

He foresees broadband access development and economic development as two important issues in the county in the coming years.
