he Humane Society of Kandiyohi County has finally found a permanent home with the opening of the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter in the Industrial Park in west Willmar.
Kudos to all the volunteers and local officials who worked together in a private-public partnership to make the new animal shelter become reality.
The Humane Society along with its volunteers, Kandiyohi County and the city of Willmar formed an innovative partnership that helped plan and construct the new shelter.
It is an impressive facility!
The public will get a chance to see this new Willmar asset during the animal shelter's open house, scheduled Nov. 14 and 15.

This week is a historic one for the organization. For the first time in the organization's history, the Humane Society has a permanent home with the opening of the $500,000 facility.
The permanent facility will be beneficial in the care of the animals and related programs. It will also help build the organization's identity in the region, which in turn can foster more community development for the facility.
The new shelter significantly expands the organization's space to take care of homeless animals until they can be claimed and/or adopted.
Currently, the shelter has a population of 50 cats and 24 dogs and these animals have all now been moved to the new location.
The animal shelter is still in the process of unpacking boxes and getting the supplies and equipment in the right place. Volunteers are welcome to stop by and help.
Once again, we commend the Humane Society and all its volunteers and the public officials who played a part in making the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter a reality.
All the animals appreciate this job well done.
