Hats off from Kandiyohi County to the residents in Area 2 of Willmar, where 50 percent of homeowners are using the curbside program to recycle. Area 2 covers homes in southeast Willmar along Trott and Lakeland Avenues and a portion of Olena Avenue.
Kandiyohi County's recycling crews counted the number of recycling bins placed at the curb in Willmar and Atwater during October. On average, residents divert 42 tons per week of recycled plastic containers, cans, mixed paper and paperboard from entering the landfill by using curbside pickup and the county's 20 drop-off sites.
