Baker represents - and gets results - for Kandiyohi County

Mary Sawatzky's supporters must be desperate. They're writing misleading letters to the editor saying Dave Baker doesn't represent us.

Related: John W. C. Dahl letter: Not impressed with Baker's record Let's get one thing straight: Dave Baker has been the most effective representative we've had for our community in years.

He helped secure avian flu funding for our turkey farmers who were suffering last year. Just this past week, our community celebrated the opening of the new University of Minnesota Poultry Testing Lab, made possible thanks to Dave Baker. Dave helped pass legislation to equip first responders with the overdose prevention drug Narcan that has literally saved lives across the state. Dave made good on his promise to bring high-speed access to rural areas, voting for more than double the amount of broadband funding compared to the previous two years.

Dave helped make funding more fair for rural schools, and passed critical new education funding for Willmar, New London-Spicer, and ACGC schools. Dave personally authored and helped pass legislation that provided loan forgiveness so we can recruit new long-term care workers to care for our seniors. He froze and even lowered tuition at Ridgewater College, making college more affordable for our families.

Simply put, Dave doesn't just talk about getting things done, he goes out and works with legislators of all sides to get results. Mary Sawatzky's supporters can try to mislead Kandiyohi County residents all they want, but the record is clear: Dave Baker got results. Mary Sawatzky didn't.

Mary had two years with her party in total control and she did not pass a single bill that will have a tangible positive impact on Kandiyohi County.

Next time you see Mary Sawatzky ask her - what did you get done specifically for our community? Her record simply can't compare with Dave's. I know who will get results. That's why I'm voting for Dave Baker this fall.

In the spirit of transparency, I am the chair of Dave Baker's re-election campaign. I know Dave as a leader who owns what got done and what didn't get done. He doesn't point blame as real leaders don't do that. Dave would rather be a solution-seeker than a problem-solver. Problem-solvers only want to talk about the problems.

Ken Warner is from Willmar.
