Councilmember Ron Christianson was quoted by KSTP-TV Aug. 4 that “the person” who ran against him last fall is leading the recall effort.

While I have knocked on a few doors and contributed monetarily, I am a minor foot soldier at best. His statement is false, and he knows it.

I remain, however, unafraid to call him out or speak my piece.

Truth be told, the entire committee worked tirelessly, meeting their neighbors personally, door-to-door, having conversations and together voicing a new way forward for the city of Willmar. The committee ended up getting significantly more signatures than it needed to move the recall to the next level.

Those signatures are from residents and voters in the Second Ward who have tired of Christianson’s actions, people who agreed with the committee that Christianson has betrayed their trust, and is no longer fit to hold office.

I’m simply another in a long list of people and/or groups who Ron has blamed at one time or another. Moving Willmar Forward. The Chamber of Commerce. The former fire chief and the former city administrator. And now, me.

Tomorrow, it’ll be someone else.

In doing so, Christianson insults the intelligence of every person who signed the recall petition, as well as all those who wish they had, of whom there are many.

But what do I know?

After all, I’m just an idiot, according to at least one councilmember who still refuses to confirm or deny he made that public statement.

Well, today, it’s a great day to be an idiot.

Well done, friends.
