A wonderful article appeared recently in the West Central Tribune.
The Monday, Aug. 31, article, “Willmar completes 37-year project,” was about completion of the burying of power wires in Willmar.
This is significant because a lot of communities have not done so.
Why is this important? Safety. During the New York floods recently, people were killed during a storm when above-ground cables fell into the water. That cannot very well happen in Willmar, with our buried wires.
Aesthetics. As an amateur photographer, I have had many pictures ruined (or at least diminished) by wires getting in the way.
It is commonplace that people state that “government cannot do anything right.” We see here that that is not true in the above matter. Yes, Charter Cable helped with the cost (as they buried their lines at the same time), but it was the instigation of the Utilities Commission that got the project started and completed.
