Letter: Liebl would be good mayor

I was intrigued to read the Tribune’s editorial endorsement of Marv Calvin for mayor on Saturday. They didn’t seem to really do their research on the candidates. In fact most of the article sounded like it came right from Marv Calvin’s literature. They had an awful lot of good things to say about Marv running for mayor and his credentials to lead.

But they seemed to miss that his experience is pretty narrow with not much current city experience to bring to the table. When I watched the debates it was very clear Marv’s experience that could relate to the position was outdated, and in today’s world we do not want outdated. I hear people say Willmar is 20 years behind the rest of the state. Well, electing outdated won’t fix that problem.

I was very impressed with the background, knowledge and poise Zack Liebl brought to the conversation. He brought in so many life experiences, understanding and ideas for being less than half the age of Marv. If he has this much under his belt at 25, think what in four years as mayor he could contribute to our community.

Both candidates have served on many boards and committees with good background in leading meetings. However, it was very clear during the debate that Zack brings the presence needed to truly handle whatever is presented to him. He was great at answering the questions he was asked and never danced around them. Watching his campaign, Zack has earned my vote this November, and I hope he has yours too.
