One absolutely cannot make this up.
At a special Willmar City Council meeting on June 13, some city councilors whined and complained about the “use of cell phones” and technology in general as an avenue for the public to keep tabs on their shenanigans and to keep the public informed of what councilors are doing to the public.
By the way, one part of the meeting was dedicated as a “refresher on the Minnesota Open Meeting Law” according to the West Central Tribune article.
Fast forward exactly two months later to Aug. 13, and certain factions of the Willmar City Council has one of their diehard supporters using city-owned (taxpayer-funded) electronics equipment to videotape members of the public who wish to speak their mind at a Ward 4 listening session at the Skylark Mall.
When this same WRAC-8 video camera-wielding person attempted the same shenanigans at the YMCA that same night but was stopped.
The explanation that was given that the videotaping was done in the name of openness, clarity and transparency.
Indeed, you can’t make this up.
Straight out of crazy town.
My head hurts while trying to process the sheer madness of it all.
Willmar City Council: To the outside world, you still look foolish.
For the sake of my friends and family who live and work in your city, I hope and pray that the Ward 4 election will be the start of a very needed growing-up process for the Willmar City Council.
