Here they go again. America's Left is simply so stunned by Hillary Clinton's defeat, their denial will take them everywhere. The only excuse they haven't used is that the dog ate Hillary's homework.

John Burns's letter is a perfect example of a disorder described in a spot-on commentary in the Dec. 27 issue of the Chicago Tribune ("The Democrats' destructive politics of righteousness"). Its author, Kenneth Woodward, identifies the symptoms of this liberal disorder as "the tendency of the Democratic Party to assume ownership of the moral high ground whenever cultural values and social norms are at issue in American politics... and those who disagree are... a 'basket of deplorables'."

As President-elect Trump's inauguration arrived, the Hillary support group, in its search for rationalization, castigates Trump for making nice with the Russian superpower. But when Nixon reached out to China, he was considered for a Nobel Peace prize.

How dare the Russians state a preference for a leader they could talk to, right? For 60 years, the United States has flexed its muscles to shore up foreign governments or influence regime change in the name of our national interests.

Yet, when the possibility of the U.S. being at the receiving end of manipulation, Burns and his ilk are outraged? So much for the goose and the gander.

What makes the transfer of power so special in democratic societies like the United States has been the gracious, peaceful acceptance of defeat by those whose political party did not prevail. What is so embarrassing to the United States this time around is the unwillingness of citizens like Burns and his ilk to take their licks, accept the outcome, rally around the victorious candidate, and wish him and his administration great success in making America Great Again.

At the very least, learn how to be a minority party. Remember, the American voters not only elected a Republican president; they also elected Republican majorities in the Senate and House, just as did Minnesotans in St. Paul.

Can you spell "mandate"?
