We recently had the pleasure of visiting Willmar for Minnesota Sparks, an event that brought us into conversation with members of your community. Using our respective areas of expertise and research, we discussed the complex challenges and the new possibilities to battle drug addiction, as well as the constant threat of avian flu and how we can safeguard our farmers and communities from its destruction. We wish to thank your community for hosting us and for the engaging dialogue.

The University of Minnesota's impact is deep and broad in Willmar through our Mid-Central Research and Outreach Center on the Minnwest Technology campus, 4-H youth programs, our Minnesota Poultry Testing Laboratory, healthcare affiliations and our Regional Extension Office. We fulfill our land grant mission in many ways, and that's demonstrated in Kandiyohi County with more than 1,200 alumni - including physicians, scientists, teachers, business and civic leaders - who keep your community strong and vibrant.

With our expertise, resources and local partnerships, we work to solve the state's most pressing issues. We appreciate the community's support and continued partnership in this endeavor.

Thank you, Willmar community.

Dr. Mark Thomas and Dr. Carol Cardona
