Shelly Hedlund: Abortion claims were absurd

John Burns’s comment about Jesus not being opposed to abortion in a recent letter to the editor is absurd.

Jesus Christ, who is One with the Father and the Holy Spirit, speaks to human beings throughout the entire Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments.

Here is a scripture that is pretty straightforward about God’s love for unborn babies. From Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you.”

Here is another one from Psalms 139: 13-16: “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

When he was on Earth Jesus did not mince words about what people deserve for hurting children. From Matthew 16: 6: "If anyone causes one of these little ones – those who believe in me – to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” Though this scripture refers to children who are already born, it could be applied to doing harm to unborn children as well.

I don’t know how anyone can deny that abortion is taking an innocent life. It is one of the reasons I left the Democrat Party 15 years ago.
