Voters should elect Mary Sawatzky.

She best personifies the values and interests of House District 17B. Her experience and skills are needed to end the current ineptitude and gridlock in the Legislature. She rejects policies that divide us.

Mary and her opponent are both likeable people when in their home district; but they are very different in St. Paul. Mary's opponents seem to enjoy, even relish, being part of a movement bent on hamstringing good government and driving a wedge between metro and outstate Minnesotans. They are willing to say one thing at home (support for better roads and high-speed internet), but vote against these programs once in St. Paul. Mary is different. What she advocates for in her district, she supports in St. Paul

Mary understands we are citizens of one state and we need to support public safety, good roads and bridges, education, high-speed internet, and similar services for all. We must do together what we cannot do individually. Farmers need well-maintained infrastructure to get to their fields, plant and fertilize their crops and get those crops to market. Businesses need good communication systems like access to high-speed internet to be competitive and serve their customers well. Our children and grandchildren need a good education system to expand their minds so they can attain their full potential. Mary knows a civil society needs to wisely invest in infrastructure to achieve these goals.

I am a long-time Kandiyohi County taxpayer - Fahlun Township - who lives and works in the metro area. For nearly two decades I served our state on its highest court. I know how essential it is for all Minnesotans to work together and support each other. It is so wrong to try to divide us to achieve short-term partisan political gains. Help end this divisive, counterproductive trend. Return Mary Sawatzky to the House where she will serve us all.
