Weather updates for west central Minnesota for Feb. 23, 2023

Travel advisories are now lifted in Kandiyohi and Meeker counties as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Highway 14 and all state highways south of Highway 14 in Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, and Redwood counties remain closed.

MnDOT District 8 advises prospective travelers to stay home through Saturday

With a winter storm underway, and blizzard conditions forecast for Thursday, the message from the Minnesota Department of Transportation is "stay home." District 8 Superintendent Lonnie Hoffman says weather conditions may be life-threatening for travelers who become stranded on the side of the road or in a ditch.

Woman deported after fatal bus crash in Cottonwood pleads to illegal re-entry

Franco del-Cid of Guatemala served eight years in prison for the bus crash that killed four children near Cottonwood in 2008. She was deported, but was arrested at her residence in Inver Grove Heights in November 2019 for illegal re-entry. She pleaded guilty to the offense on Monday in U.S. District Court in St. Paul
