Led by a strong outing from Austin Dunn, Montevideo got the non-conference home win over Willmar on Tuesday night.
Dunn won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 32.81 seconds. Two events later, he won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.73. He was also part of the winning 200 medley relay — along with Callim Schmitz, Gavin Arends and Mickey Hess — at 1:49.48.
Hess (50 freestyle, 24.21), Schmitz (100 breaststroke, 1:10.38), Parker Thissen (200 freestyle, 2:06.51) and Jaxon Wagner (100 freestyle, 55.63) also won for the Thunder Hawks.
Colin O’Farrell (200 individual medley, 2:27.65), David Lammers (100 butterfly, 1:00.35) and Kale Bockelman (diving, 207.30) each had first-place finishes for the Cardinals. Willmar also had relays wins in the 200 free and 400 free.
With the loss, the Cardinals are 0-3 in duals this season.
Willmar is at Fergus Falls on Thursday while Montevideo hosts Melrose/Sauk Centre on Thursday, Jan. 13.
