Prep volleyball roundup: Bulldogs sweep the Lakers

Paynesville beats Minnewaska 25-23, 25-19, 25-18

PAYNESVILLE — The Paynesville Bulldogs earned a sweep win over Minnewaska on Monday.

The Bulldogs won the sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-18.

The Lakers and Bulldogs endured a close first set with the score tied at 20 before the Bulldogs went on a scoring run to take the win.

After taking the first set, Paynesville continued its scoring drive, taking a 14-8 lead. The Lakers eventually found their own scoring drive and narrowed the gap to two with a 20-18 score, leading to Paynesville calling a timeout.

After the timeout, Paynesville outscored Minnewaska 5-1 to take the 25-19 win.

Minnewaska started the third set by taking a small lead, but Paynesville went on to re-take the lead and pull away with the set 25-18.

Paynesville plays at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Holdingford in a Central Minnesota Conference match.

Minnewaska returns to West Central Conference play with a match against Morris/Chokio-Alberta at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in Glenwood.

Caylee Weber had 12 kills and Leslie Snow 11 as BOLD needed five sets to beat New Ulm Cathedral at New Ulm.

Layla Pfarr had 20 set assists and Delaney Tersteeg 15 for the Warriors, who also got five blocks from Kenzie Visser. Weber, Mari Ryberg and Tersteeg all had nine digs.

BOLD plays at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Melrose in a West Central Conference match.

Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg battled to a five-set non-conference loss at Kimball.

The Fighting Saints fell 25-18, 24-26, 22-25, 25-21, 15-8.

KMS plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against MACCRAY in a Camden Conference match at Clara City.

Marshall 3, MACCRAY 0

Marshall, the No. 1-ranked team in Class AAA, swept Class A MACCRAY at Marshall.

The Tigers beat the Wolverines 25-14, 25-14, 25-21.

Sydney Thein had a Wolverine-best seven kills along with 10 digs and eight set assists. Annie Bourne dished out 11 set assists while Ella Bourne led the defense with 14 digs.

MACCRAY is back in Camden Conference action Tuesday, hosting Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.
