Prep baseball: Fransen tames Mustangs

Renville County West's Ryan Fransen pitches against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart during the fifth inning Monday in Sacred Heart. Fransen pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout over the Mustangs, striking out eight. The Jaguars won 1-0.

SACRED HEART -- Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart starting pitcher Ryan Hahn hit the first batter of the game with a pitch and it wound up being the difference in Renville County West's 1-0 win over the Mustangs on Monday.

After Hahn hit leadoff hitter Brett Feldman, he reached second on a sacrifice.

Ryan Fransen walked and Feldman stole third to put runners on the corners, and Feldman came in with the game's only run on a double-steal with Fransen going to second on an early break.

The one run held up, as Fransen pitched a complete-game, one-hit gem for the Jaguars.

Fransen struck out eight and walked four.

In the sixth inning, the Mustangs had their best chance to score when they loaded the bases, but the rally ended with a popup for the third out.

Ben Maiers had the lone hit for the Mustangs. He also pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Hahn.

Brett Feldman, Tucker Harazin and Chris Feldman had hits for RCW.
