NWL Baseball: Stingers end skid

WILLMAR - The Willmar Stingers scored nine runs in the first four innings, then held off Rochester from chipping away a six-run lead and defeated the Honkers 10-7 on Friday at Bill Taunton Stadium.

The Stingers, led by Alex Reyes' six runs batted in, ended a three-game losing streak and improved to 14-8 in the Northwoods League North Division second-half standings.

The Stingers are a game behind first-place Eau Claire and get a chance to make up ground on the Express with a pair of games in Eau Claire today and Sunday.

Against Rochester, the Stingers cobbled together three-run innings in the first, second and fourth innings.

The Honkers scraped together three runs in the seventh and eighth to close within two at 9-7 but Willmar's Caleb Ledbetter singled in Nolan Bumstead with an insurance run in the eighth and Calvin Coker earned the save with a one-two-three ninth.

Reyes doubled twice and drove six runs. Bumstead had three hits and scored four times and Danny Rodriguez also had three hits, an RBI and scored a run.

Ledbetter had two hits and drove in a pair and Marcus Still and Tyler Reichenborn both had two hits.
