BELGRADE — BBE had a tough battle with Upsala-Swanville Area in the final game of the regular season so it was likely Saturday's matchup in the Section 4A semifinals would be similar, despite the Jaguars' standing as the section's No. 1 seed.

USA scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to erase BBE's lead and the Patriots held on for a 20-14 victory.

USA, the No. 4 seed, is 7-3 and plays Mayer Lutheran for the section championship at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Cloud State University. BBE had its eight-game winning streak snapped and finished 8-2.

BBE's Ryan Illies plunged a yard for a first-quarter TD and USA quarterback Jorgan Kiley found Lawrence Mettler on a nine-yard scoring strike in the third quarter to send the game into the final quarter at 6-6.

The Jaguars' Isaiah Gilbert ran three yards for a score and Illies added the two-point conversion for a 14-6 lead.

But USA's Dalton Louden scored on a two-yard run to close the gap and Alex Thieschafer caught a game-winning 25-yard pass from Kiley with 19 seconds on the clock.

Thieschafer also intercepted three passes to help shut down a BBE passing game that managed just three completions and 16 yards.

Illies' third interception of the day proved to be a backbreaker, coming on a 3rd-and-long from the USA red zone with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots then turned in chunk play after chunk play—both through the ground and air—before Thieschafer rose up over a pair of Jaguars defenders with 19 ticks to go.

Gilbert gained 191 yards on 31 carries and Adam Jaeger picked up 58 yards on 10 carries. Jaeger also intercepted Kiley twice and led the Jaguars with seven solo tackles and seven assists.
