Six Willmar swimmers and divers will compete in the Class A Minnesota State Swimming and Diving Meet beginning today at the University of Minnesota's Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center in Minneapolis.

Junior Erica Schramm and senior Olivia Welsh compete in diving preliminaries at noon today. The pair finished 1-2 in the Section 3A championships last weekend, and Schramm is ranked No. 25 and Welsh is No. 26 in the Class A field.

All 32 divers have five dives to begin the competition and then the field is trimmed to 20, who then have three more dives. The top 16 move onto Saturday's finals and have three more dives.

"Both girls have an excellent chance at making the finals on Saturday," said Cardinals head coach Carl Shuldes.

The Cardinals' 200 freestyle relay team enters Friday's preliminaries ranked No. 9. The team of senior Moira Revier, junior Amanda Mathiasen and ninth-graders Edyn Saulsbury and Avery Welsh qualified in 1:40.83. Hutchinson has the top qualifying time of 1:37.88.
