MINNEAPOLIS - Willmar's two state relays had the team's best finish in Friday's Class A State Swim & Dive Championships preliminaries at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota.
Both the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays, with swimmers Jacob Meyer, Mateo Marin-Mera, Colin O'Farrell and Ayden Schueler, placed ninth and will be the top seeds in Saturday's consolation finals. The 200 free relay hit the wall at 1 minute, 30.22 seconds while the 400 free relay came in at 3:18.01.
Ayden Schueler had the Cardinals' top finish with a 10th-place showing in the 200 freestyle at 1:48.70. He also finished 17th in the 500 freestyle at 5:03.95.
Marin-Mera also competed in a pair of events, placing 16th in the 100 butterfly (56.54) and 20th in the 200 individual medley (2:07.19). Meyer came in 12th in the 100 freestyle (49.66) and O'Farrell swam alongside Schueler in the 200 freestyle, finishing 15th (1:51.83).
The Class A State Swim & Dive Championships will conclude at noon Saturday back at the Aquatic Center.
