WILLMAR — There were no wins, but the Willmar softball team performed well Thursday night against a state-ranked Sartell team.

“We lost two but it’s the best softball we’ve played,” Willmar head coach Shannon Cayler said. “Sartell has been ranked in the top 10 of the state and we went 0-0 into the seventh in the first game.”

Sartell, ranked sixth in Class AAA, beat Willmar 4-0, getting a no-hitter. The Sabres won Game 2, 7-5.

“Our girls came out aggressive,” Cayler said. “It’s the best night of softball we’ve had all year.”

In Game 1, Lily Reed tossed a seven-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one. In Game 2, Lily Reed, Carlie Berskow, Zoe Schroeder, Marie Enstad and Hailie Smith all had hits for Willmar.

Sartell is now 10-0 in the Central Lakes Conference and 14-0 overall. Willmar (4-8 CLC and overall) plays a doubleheader Tuesday at Fergus Falls.
