BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Grove City native and 2005 Litchfield High School graduate Sara Ackman, a senior at South Dakota State University, placed high enough at the NCAA West Regional recently in the discus throw to qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Ackman, who qualified for the NCAA Championships last year, had a ninth-place throw of 166-9 in the regional meet May 28 in Austin, Texas, and will enter Wednesday's competition with the 27th-best throw in the nation. The winning throw was 179-9.

Ackman, who holds the Summit League Championships record in the discus with a throw of 172-10, failed to get past the preliminary stage of the last year's NCAA Championships with a 155-8 throw.
