GRANITE FALLS -- Renville County West proved nobody's a pushover in the Section 3A baseball playoffs.

Barely over .500 heading into postseason, the Jaguars fought off elimination until the last day, losing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning to heavily-favored Adrian on Thursday.

The ending was dramatic.

With the game tied 1-1 in the last of the seventh, Ross Weineke, the No. 4 hitter for Adrian, led off with a walk.

He was sacrificed to second and awarded third when a balk was called on RCW pitcher Dakota Freiborg. Brett Nowotny and Adam Dieckman were each walked intentionally to load the sacks.

Freiborg fanned Andrew Lonneman for the second out. That brought up catcher Justin Wolf, who had two of his team's six hits.

Wolf then lined a shot to right field to bring in Wieneke from third with the winning run.

RCW trailed 1-0 heading in the top of the seventh. Luke Tiesler, the Dragons' senior right-hander, had checked the Jaguars on one hit through six innings, a Trent Novotny's infield single in the fourth.

Freiborg, who got his 100th career hit on Monday in an 8-5 loss to the Dragons, popped to short leading off.

That brought up clean-up hitter Nate Wensauer, who had flew out to left and lined to shortstop Adam Dieckman, who turned it into a double play by catching Novotny off second.

Wensauer timed a low fastball from Tiesler and drove it high over the left-center fence near the 355 mark to tie it up. Tiesler got the next two hitters to send it to the bottom of the seventh.

Freiborg, who threw a complete game Tuesday to beat Murray County Central in the elimination-round final, gave up a third-inning run while escaping bases-loaded jams in the third and the fifth. He finished with six strikeouts.

Adrian was the runner-up to MACCRAY last year and had many key people back. RCW, which upset the 2009 state champion Wolverines early in the playoffs, would have needed to beat Adrian twice to advance to state.
