WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals ran out of steam in the top weights and fell to Alexandria 47-27 in Central Lakes Conference wrestling Thursday.
Willmar trailed 29-18 after forfeiting at 152 pounds.
Cody Stegeman (20-3) trailed 6-1 after one period in his match with Josh Hobbs at 160. But the team's winningest wrestler took Hobbs down for a pin at 3:07.
Next at 171 pounds, Nathaniel Swoyer used a three-point nearfall in the second period to catch and pass Josh Betterman for a 6-4 decision and it was 29-27.
But Willmar gave up 18 points in the last three matches -- a pin and then forfeits at the last two weights.

Willmar led 18-0 on pins by Nate Mittag at 103 pounds and Alex Johannes at 112, followed by a forfeit win at 119.
Coty Mithausen lost 8-7 at 135 and Adam Fagerstrom lost a competitive match at 130, 8-2 to Charlie Kirscht.
