LITCHFIELD -- After combining for 16 runs in the first game of the best-of-three series, Litchfield and the Sartell Stone Ponies pushed across 21 runs in the eighth and ninth innings alone in the second game Sunday with Sartell prevailing 17-16 Sunday to sweep the Blues out of the Lakewood League playoffs.
After the dust settled in a wild game at Optimist Park, Sartell and Litchfield used nine pitchers and combined for 29 hits, eight errors and 19 walks. Sartell won the first game 11-5 on Saturday.
Sartell owned a slim 7-5 lead after seven innings before putting a pair of five-run frames on the scoreboard in the eighth and ninth. Litchfield tied it up at 12-12 after manufacturing seven runs in the eighth.
Josh Johnson doubled and singled twice to drive in two runs, Shane Gutormson doubled twice to knock in another three runs, Toby Chellin slugged a two-run homer and Terry Euerle drove in three runs with a triple and single to highlight the Blues' 16-hit attack.
