Amateur Baseball: Norway Lake-Sunburg spoils Willmar opener

SUNBURG -- Willmar scored in the first inning of its first amateur baseball game of the season, but fell to Norway Lake-Sunburg 11-3 in a Cornbelt League game Sunday.

SUNBURG -- Willmar scored in the first inning of its first amateur baseball game of the season, but fell to Norway Lake-Sunburg 11-3 in a Cornbelt League game Sunday.

Jordan Olson hit an RBI single after the Rails' first two batters walked.

Willmar took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Lane Kleist and a Zach Horning single.

The rest of the game was controlled by the Lakers, who scored three runs in the fourth, three more in the sixth and two runs in both the seventh and eighth.

Willmar committed sev-en errors in the game, while the Lakers were flawless in the field.

Jordan Johnson doubled in two runs in the sixth for NL-Sunburg and Kyle Syverson's only hit drove in two runs in the eighth.

Jared Johnson, Kent Gjerde, James Cortez and Aaron Zimmer had two hits each for the Lakers (2-1, 2-1).

Horning, Olson and Matt Sagedahl had two hits apiece for the Rails (0-1, 0-1).

Alex Lotthammer pitched the first 7Xc innings for the win. He gave up eight hits, struck out eight but walked nine. Nate Schlagel allowed one hit, struck out three and walked one in the last 1Zc innings.

Darin Ditterich started the game for Willmar and took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits. He walked three and struck out two. Jason Scheffler, Troy Ditterich and Cody Scott finished.

Two unearned runs scored in the third inning led the Saints to the win.

Two singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases for Sacred Heart, then an error at first base on a ground ball allowed two runs to score.

The Twins scored a run in the eighth to cut the lead to one when Jeremy Dirksen scored on a ground ball and beat the throw at home plate.

Jeremy Hinderks went the distance for the Sacred Heart win. He allowed seven hits, struck out seven and walked four.

Darren Odgahl pitched all eight inning for the NL-Spicer. He gave up five hits, struck out five and walked three.

Mike Andreas highlighted a four-run second inning for Starbuck with a bases-loaded single to score two runs. Andreas, Ryan Gandrud and Matt Daniels had two hits each.

Justin Schlemmer and Eric Dolan drove in two runs apiece to back the combined three-hit pitching of Nathan and Austin Deutz.

David Schmidt had three hits for Milroy (1-0, 4-0). Schlemmer and Matt Bauer had two hits apiece.

Nathan Deutz gave up one hit and no runs over two innings before being relieved by Austin Deutz, who allowed three hits over the final five innings for the win.

Adam Miller hit a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game for the Pirates, who won the game on an error which scored Shannon Olmscheid.

Granite Falls held a 7-0 lead after the top of the fifth. Paynesville scored one run in the bottom of the inning and three more in the seventh.

Jamie Paul had three hits and three RBI for Paynesville.

Brett Savelkoul pitched the last 4Zc innings for the win. He allowed just one hit, struck out seven and walked three.
