Amateur Baseball: Ramthun, Litchfield sneak by Hutchinson

Pitcher’s complete game helps Blues beat the Huskies, 3-1

HUTCHINSON — Jack Ramthun went all nine innings and Litchfield’s defense played well in helping the Blues to a 3-1 North Star League victory over the Hutchinson Huskies on Friday night.

Ramthun allowed six hits, striking out one, walking one and allowing one earned run. The Blues made one error behind him.

Bret Wendlandt went 2-for-4 and Josh Johnson was 2-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases for Litchfield (5-6 North Star).

Jon DeRock went all nine innings for Hutchinson (7-3 North Star). He struck out eight, walked one and allowed eight hits and three earned runs.

Litchfield is host to the Cold Spring Rockies in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Optimist Park.

Ashwin Stratton struck out 12 and walked two over eight innings to lead the Moorhead Mudcats to the exhibition victory over the Starbuck Stars at Glenwood.

Stratton allowed five hits.

Toby Sayles pitched a scoreless ninth and also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs. Isaac Howe was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Ty Syverson tripled and drove in two for the Mudcats.

For Starbuck, Mike Kragenbring and Mike Andreas were each 2-for-4.

Matt Hmilelewski struck out 10 in nine innings to help the Marshall A’s to the Corn Belt League victory at Sacred Heart. At the plate, Hmielewski went 2 of 5 and recorded a stolen base.

Marshall’s Ryan VanMoer scored the lone run in the top of the eighth inning.

Sacred Heart’s Jeremy Hinderks took the loss, going 7⅔ innings and striking out 10.
