WILLMAR — Up 5-0 through three innings of Wednesday’s Corn Belt League game with Willmar, Bird Island had the cushion it needed to secure an 8-2 victory over the host Rails.

James Woelfel went 4-for-6 from the leadoff spot for the Bullfrogs, notching a double to go with a run and two RBIs. Tyler Hebrink, Jordan Sagedahl and Logan Swann each had two hits, with Swann driving in four runs in the victory.

Jared Dettmann was credited with the win for Bird Island.

For Willmar, Zak Madsen finished 2-for-2, driving in both runs with a two-out single in the fifth. Gunnar Banks and Christian Lessman both were 1-for-3 with a double apiece. Lessman was hit with the loss after 4-2/3 innings of work.

Led by a big offensive night from Tyler Steen, the Raymond Rockets rolled through the Wabasso Jax for a 10-0 Corn Belt League win in seven innings on Wednesday.


Steen finished 2-for-3 with a two-run home run to center field in the third inning. Justin Koenen was 1-for-3 with a two-run double while Eric Hulterstrum, Caleb Ditmarson, Paxton Nelson and Brett Swanson also had doubles for Raymond.

Tanner Bauman was the winning pitcher after throwing three scoreless innings of relief.

While Paynesville went off for 16 hits, New London-Spicer used a six-run second inning to secure the 14-9 County Line League win Wednesday in Paynesville.

Josh Soine and Adam Schrader each had home runs for the Twins, with Schrader belting a grand slam in the high-scoring second frame while Soine connected with a two-run shot in the fourth. Schrader was 3-for-5 while Soine was 2-for-5.

The Pirates’ big bat was Blake Vagle, who went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Grady Fuchs and Zach Schroeder each had two hits in the loss.

Eight different players accounted for Willmar 16U’s 13 hits in a 19-1 win over Minnewaska in VFW baseball action Tuesday night in Glenwood.

Sam Etterman went 3-for-5 with a double, five RBIs, two runs and a stolen base while teammate Brandt Sunder finished 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, a run and a stolen base for Post 1639. Cayden Hansen went 1-for-1 at the plate with three runs and an RBI while also getting the win on the mound with one run and one hit allowed with seven strikeouts over four innings of work.
