Amateur Baseball Roundup: Lotthammer, Sawatzky dominate mound in Rockets' win

RAYMOND -- Alex Lotthammer and John Sawatzky were dominant on the mound and Tyler Steen's run-scoring single in the first proved to be the winning run in Raymond's 2-0 victory over Marshall on Sunday.

Lotthammer struck out 12 in six innings, allowing two hits. Sawatzky earned the save, allowing just a hit and a walk while striking out three over the final three innings.

Their efforts countered a strong outing by the A’s Colton Smit, who pitched all eight innings and struck out 10.

Steen was 2-for-4 and scored an insurance run in the eighth when Sawatzky lifted a sacrifice fly to center field.

Mike Jeseritz was 1-for-3 and scored on Steen’s single in the first.

Mike Nagel drove in four runs and Jesse Bjur and Barry Wohler combined on a seven-inning one-hitter in the Bullfrogs’ victory on Sunday in Bird Island.

Bjur worked the first five innings, allowing an unearned run and striking out six. Wohler pitched the final two innings and struck out three.

The Bullfrogs’ Luke Kramer homered and drove in three runs, and Nagel, Dylan Gass, Tyler Hebrink and Logan Sandgren all had two hits. Hebrink drove in two runs.

Tanner Thunstedt picked up the Rails’ lone hit, a fourth-inning double. He came around to score on a ground out and an error.

Matt Tanner singled in two eighth-inning runs to lead Atwater to a victory over Norway Lake-Sunburg on Saturday at Kingery Field in Atwater.

NLS’ Chris Braaten held the Chuckers scoreless through six innings, but Matt Tanner scored on an error in the seventh, then singled to left to plate Jordan Tanner and Vance Martin in the eighth.

Matt Tanner was 3-for-3.

Martin worked a strong game, going all nine innings and striking out five. He issued just one walk and shut out the Lakers the final eight innings.

NLS’s Jonah Johnson was 2-for-4 and Braaten also had two hits and drove in a run.

The Chuckers play next against Dassel-Cokato at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Cokato.

Zac Enevoldsen provided his own entertainment on his 18th birthday Saturday as the recent Montevideo High School graduate provided the winning hit in his first amateur baseball game.

The Spartans owned a 3-0 lead after two innings of play and held the advantage until visiting Ortonville scored three times in the eighth and ninth. Joe Bednar bunted with one out in the Montevideo ninth to reach base and later stole second. Enevoldsen soon followed with a line-drive hit to left to knock in Bednar and give the Spartans (1-0, 1-2) their first win of the season.

Montevideo starter Eldon Evans struck out six in six shutout innings before giving way to eventual winner Colton Vien. All three of the Rox runs were unearned as Montevideo committed six errors on the day.
