Amateur baseball roundup: Paynesville puts on a good show, beats New Munich

PAYNESVILLE — Griffin Bjerke tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Paynesville to a 1 1-0 amateur baseball victory over the New Munich Silverstreaks late Wednesday.

The game was featured on Fox9 television’s Town Ball Series during the station’s news shows throughout the evening, leading to a large crowd that included youth baseball teams playing earlier in the day.

Bjerke struck out 13 and walked two.

Luke Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Pirates, driving in Blake Vagle, who was 1-for-3 with a double and a hit-by-pitch. Grayson Fuchs and Grant Fuchs each had two hits for Paynesville.

Starbuck 10, NLS Lakers 2

The Starbuck Stars lashed out 16 hits to beat the Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers in a County Line League game late Wednesday at Marthaler Park in Glenwood.

Michael Gruber, Darion Alexander and Andrew Toop all had three hits for Starbuck.

Jared Cortez went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run for the Lakers.
