Rockets score twice in the eighth to beat Bullfrogs

BIRD ISLAND — The Raymond Rockets prevailed in a matchup of two of the teams in amateur baseball’s Corn Belt League.

The Rails beat the Bird Island Bullfrogs 2-1. It was Bird Island’s first Corn Belt League loss, pushing its record to 4-1 in league play.

Raymond is now 6-2 in the Corn Belt.

Caleb Ditmarson and Eric Hulterstrum each drove in runs in the eighth inning for Raymond. Justin Koenen and Eli Nelson each added two hits for the Rockets.

Ditmarson pitched the first seven innings, striking out eight and walking three. He allowed four hits and one earned run.


Tanner Bauman got the win in relief.

Casey Lewandowski went all nine innings for Bird Island. He struck out six, walked three and allowed eight hits and two earned runs.

Dylan Gass was 2-for-5 for the Bullfrogs.

Isaac Schmitt threw seven solid innings and Jake Tauer had three hits to lead the Milroy Yankees over the Willmar Rails at Yankee Field.

Schmitt struck out nine, walked four and scattered six hits, allowing one earned run in the victory.

Tauer was 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base for the Yankees. Aaron Mathiowetz also homered for Milroy.


For Willmar, Jayden Dierenfeld was 2-for-4.

Loretto’s Keenan Hodgkin was 4-for-4 with a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. He finished with five runs and four RBIs.

Ahead 9-1 after two innings, the Larks went off for 11 runs in the top of the third.

Winky Estrada was Litchfield’s top hitter, going 3-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Drew Kotzer, Brady Smith and Avery Liestman each had two hits in the Blues’ loss.
