MILROY — The Willmar Rails not only beat one of the top teams in the Corn Belt League - they did so in dominant fashion.

Traveling to Yankee Field Friday for the amateur baseball matchup, Willmar out-hit Milroy 17-2 on the way to a 12-0 win in seven innings.

With the win, the Rails move to 4-4 in the Corn Belt. The Yankees, who were tied with the Raymond Rockets for the lead coming into Friday night, drop to 7-3 in league play.

Willmar broke the game open with a four-run top of the third inning. Ashton Gregory hit an RBI single, followed by a two-run double by Wade Fischer that brought in Jack Baumgart and Gregory. Fischer reached home for the final run on a groundout.

Zach Reierson paced the Rails’ offense, going 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jordan Steffer finished 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, and Baumgart added three hits and a pair of runs. Christian and Riley Lessman both had two hits in the victory.


Jayden Dierenfeld struck out eight with two walks and two hits allowed over six innings to earn the win for Willmar.

Willmar has a quick turnaround, facing the New London-Spicer Twins in an exhibition game at noon Saturday in Spicer. The Rails hit the road again Sunday for a 2 p.m. game against the Tracy Engineers.

Raymond 17, Marshall 1

Mike Jeseritz and Isaac Call each hit two home runs for the Raymond Rockets in a seven-inning Corn Belt League win over the Marshall A’s at Lilleberg Field at Raymond.

Jeseritz hit a two-run homer in the second and three-run shot in the fifth. He finished the game 3-for-4 with six RBIs and four runs.

Call followed up Jeseritz’s fifth-inning homer with a solo shot. Call added a three-run dinger in the sixth. He was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs.

Paxton Nelson, Caleb Ditmarson and Tanner Bauman each had two hits for Raymond. The Rockets out-hit Marshall 18-6.

Bird Island Bullfrogs starting pitcher Casey Lewandoski struck out 12 and held the Wabasso Jaxx to three hits in a Corn Belt League win in Wabasso.

Four Bird Island players — Braeden Tersteeg, Trent Athmann, Logan Swann and Nic Taylor — had two hits in the victory.

Atwater 11, NLS Twins 1

The Atwater Chuckers collected 12 hits while pitcher Josh Kingery held the New London-Spicer Twins to three hits in a seven-inning County Line League victory at Kingery Field at Atwater.

Josh Kingery finished 3-for-3 with three runs. On the mound, he struck out 13 in a complete-game victory.

Josh Cunningham went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs and an RBI. Kobe Holtz also had a home run for the Chuckers, finishing 1-for-3. Jeff Peterson was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Ben Kulset was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Derek Dolezal scored a run for the Twins.

Hutchinson 16, Litchfield 2

Tyler Schiller was 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs while Matt Piechowski and Jake Wendland each had three hits for the Hutchinson Huskies. They went on to get the seven-inning win against the Litchfield Blues in North Star League play at Optimist Park at Litchfield.

Hutchinson’s Jayden Fleck hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh, finishing 1-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs.

Avery Liestman and Brady Smith each had a hit for Litchfield.
