Amateur Baseball: Willmar tips Paynesville, 7-6

WILLMAR -- Willmar scored twice with two outs in the eighth inning to overtake Paynesville en route to a 7-6 win Sunday in Cornbelt League amateur baseball action.

Tied 5-5, Willmar broke through when No. 9 hitter Travis Koenen singled with two outs. Matt Sagedahl was then hit by a pitch before Lane Kleist doubled home Koenen and Sagedahl scored on an error.

Jordan Haag hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give Paynesville a 3-2 lead. But the Rails regained the lead with three runs in the last of the fifth. Matt Carlson, George Jacobson and Josh Oestreich had consecutive run-scoring doubles.

Paynesville knotted the game with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on an error and three straight singles by Adam Hemmesch, Haag and Ryan Hess.

Darin Ditterich worked the first 7Zc innings for Willmar, allowing seven hits and four earned runs, while walking four and striking out three. David Anderson gave up two hits and an unearned run in the final 1Xc innings for the win. He struck out two.


Carlson and Jacobson had two hits each for Willmar (3-2, 3-2).

Hemmesch, Haag and Jamie Paulson each had two hits for the Pirates (2-3, 2-3).

Willmar hosts Bird Island on Wednesday.

Jeremy Dirksen socked a two-run homer in the sixth inning to lead an 11-hit attack for the Twins (2-3, 7-3).

NLS scored three times in the third inning, highlighted by Scott Rambow's RBI double and Mike Danielson's run-scoring single.

Darren Ogdahl tossed all nine innings for the win, allowing six hits. He walked six and struck out four.

Rambow was 3-for-5, including two doubles. Dirksen was 2-for-4.

Jesse Bjur went 2-for-4 for Bird Island (1-4, 1-4).

Ryan Gandrud, Mike VanOverbeke, Chad Andreas and Dan Braaten had two hits apiece for the Stars.

Cody Fruin had two hits for the Kilowatts (0-5, 0-5). Kelly Siverhus absorbed the loss.

Raymond's Jordan Smith outpitched Atwater's Michael Malvin as both posted complete games.

Smith allowed two runs on six hits, struck out nine and walked three. Malvin gave up three runs on eight hits, struck out four and walked five.

Jason Meyer's fielder's choice in the fourth inning gave the Rockets a 3-0 lead.

Atwater came back with two runs in the fifth.

In the ninth, Justin Schroeder of Atwater doubled to lead off, was sacrificed to third base, but wasn't able to score.

Chris Beier tossed his third complete-game win of the season, this time a five-hitter with seven strikeouts, to lift the Eagles (3-2, 5-6) and hand Sacred Heart its first loss of the season.

Andy Hadley belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning to power the Eagles. A.J. Hadley and Shane Rademacher singled ahead of Andy Hadley's homer.

Rademacher and Cody Flanders had two hits apiece for Regal.

Jeff Hinderks had two hits for Sacred Heart (3-1, 9-1).

Stephen Pennertz walked four and struck out four in his win. Only one run off him was earned.

The game was tied 2-2 until Litchfield took the lead in the top of the eighth when David Pennertz doubled and scored on Joe Pennertz's single. In the ninth, Lucas Johnson hit a triple and scored on a single by David Pennertz.
