Amateur golf: Olivia's Scott Benson wins MGA Qualifier in Redwood Falls

Benson shoots a 69 to win Monday's Minnesota Golf Association event by one stroke

REDWOOD FALLS — Scott Benson of Olivia Golf Club shot a 1-under-par 69 to win the Mid-Players’ and Senior Players’ Championship Minnesota Golf Association Qualifiers on Monday at Redwood Falls Golf Club.

Benson edged Brady Madsen of Hawk Creek Country Club, who had a 70 and is the first alternate.

Tyler Sachariason of River Crest Public Golf Course took third with a 74 to be the second alternate.

Another area finisher in the Players’ division was Danny Anderson of Little Crow Country Club, who shot a 78.

In the Senior Players division, Michael Smith of Redwood Falls Golf Club and Pat Smith of Minikahda Club each shot 75s to earn co-medalit honors. The first alternate was John Spreiter of Litchfield Golf Club, who carded a 77. Brad Johnson of The Links at Northfolk was the second alternate with an 80.


Jim Wilson of Minnewaska Golf Club shot an 85. Douglas Prins of Redwood Falls Golf Club and Tim Franzeen of Oakdale Golf Club each shot 87s.
