Amateur Golf: Peterson wraps up Mid-Amateur Championship

Fountain Valley Golf Club golfer wins the 34th MGA event with a 67 to finish at 12-under-par. Eagle Creek's Andy Jacobson is the top area golfer, finishing ninth.

WILLMAR — Trent Peterson not only maintained his lead in the final round of the 34th MGA Mid-Amateur Championship, he increased it.

The golfer from Fountain Valley Golf Club shot a 67 to finish at a 12-under-par 204 to win the title Tuesday at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Peterson won by five strokes over Troy Johnson of Edinburgh USA and Justin Burleson of Mendakota Country Club. Both shot 5-under-par 211s.

Andy Jacobson of Eagle Creek Golf Club finished ninth with a 4-over-par 220. Jacobson shot 71 Tuesday after a 72 on Monday.

Danny Anderson of Little Crow Golf Resort took 10th with a 5-over-par 221, shooting a 77 in the third round.

John Spreiter of Litchfield Golf Club finished 11th with a 222, shooting a 72 Tuesday.

Finishing 13th was Matt Gorans of Eagle Creek Golf Club. Gorans finished at 224 for 8-over-par after carding a 75 Tuesday.

Pete Hanning of Eagle Creek Golf Club finished tied for 24th with a 231. He shot 74 Tuesday. James Anderson, another Eagle Creek golfer, was tied for 29th at 234. Anderson had a 75 Tuesday.
