Area football teams draw high playoff seeds

Three Tribune-area football teams drew No. 1 seeds and three other teams are No. 2 seeds as section playoffs begin with first-round games Tuesday and second-round matchups on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Three Tribune-area football teams drew No. 1 seeds and three other teams are No. 2 seeds as section playoffs begin with first-round games Tuesday and second-round matchups on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Paynesville (Section 5AA), KMS (4A) and BOLD (5A) all drew top seeds and Willmar (8AAAA), New London-Spicer (6AAA) and Minnewaska (5AA) enter the playoffs as No. 2 seeds.

Willmar (7-1) has a first-round bye in 8AAAA and will play the winner of Tuesday's Little Falls - St. Cloud Apollo game on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Willmar.

NLS (7-1) opens the 6AAA playoffs against St. Cloud Cathedral on Tuesday in New London.

In 5AA, Paynesville (6-2) drew a first-round bye and plays either Eden Valley-Watkins or Holdingford on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Paynesville. Minnewaska (6-2), the 5AA No. 2 seed, plays host to Benson on Tuesday.

In 4A, KMS (7-1) is home against BBE on Tuesday.

The 5A playoffs could be the most compelling in the area this season. Top-seed BOLD (8-0) plays Lakeview on Tuesday in Olivia. Perennial state power Minneota (8-0) is 5A's No. 2 seed, and No. 3-seed Dawson-Boyd (7-1) plays Canby to open the section playoffs on Tuesday. The Blackjacks' one loss came against Minneota.

UNDERWOOD - The KMS volleyball team won three matches and placed second in the Gold Division at the Underwood Invitational on Friday.

KMS went 2-1 in pool play, the defeated Underwood in three sets in the Gold semifinals. The Saints lost to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in two sets in the Gold title match.
