The Willmar Girls Softball Association 10-and-under team had a strong showing in the state tournament July 11 in Circle Pines.
Willmar wound up second in state, losing its first-round game, then battling through to advance to the championship game on the final day before losing again.
Team members are: Brynnlee Carroll, Hadlee Carroll, Kya Doyle, Malea Hansen, Amelia Kveene, Aliya Reiman, Aubree Slagter, Kensley Stern, Brooklyn Wandsworth, Harper Wilson, Sydney Zuidema and Ava Zwagerman.
Coaches are Matt Carroll, Anthony Stern and Kelly Zuidema.
Ridgewater names new volleyball coach
With sports returning to Ridgewater College after the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school announced Friday that Amanda Bohlsen will take over as the Warriors’ head volleyball coach.

According to the school’s press release, Bohlsen has spent the last 10 years coaching area Junior Olympic volleyball programs in Willmar, New London and Mankato.
“Being a coach gives me the opportunity to be a lasting role model for the players I’m lucky enough to have on my court,” Bohlsen said in the release. “As a coach, I have a unique position in the lives of all the players I encounter, as well as with the community, to shape it for the future.”
Bohlsen replaces Erica Smith, who led the team to a 14-9 record in 2019.
Ridgewater is slated to start the 2021 season at the Crossover Tournament on Aug. 27 at Anoka.
