ST. CLOUD - The Pierz basketball team bolted to a 31-18 lead at halftime and defeated Litchfield 60-29 in the opening round of the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusader Classic on Monday.
Litchfield drops into the consolation bracket and will take on Concordia Academy today at 2 p.m.
Litchfield’s Noah Kreger made a couple of 3-pointers to net a team-high six points yesterday. Brandon Nelson, Luke Schultz and Carter Wattenhofer added five points each.
Kreger also led the Dragons with five rebounds.

Matthew Van Eps, Taylor Slagter and Ethan Brouwer all scored in double figures as Central Minnesota Christian School defeated the Mainstreeters in the Bremer Bank Holiday Classic on Monday at Willmar High School.
Van Eps scored 18 points and Slagter had 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Ethan Brouwer had 16 points and six boards. CMCS plays BOLD at 2 p.m. today.

The Eagles’ Lucas Strand had 26 points and seven rebounds and Connor Oie finished with 14 points. Noah Jensen had 12 points and five rebounds.
BOLD’s Ethan Weis scored 24 points and Thomas Meyers had 13 points and six rebounds.

Jacob Geisler completed the hat trick with a goal two minutes into overtime as Providence Academy defeated River Lakes in the Granite City Classic Monday in St. Cloud.
Zach Geisler scored PA’s other goal and he also assisted on three goals.
River Lakes’ Grant Thompson, Jake Jenson and Blake Shuck scored goals and Thompson, Jack Kuhlman and Payton Madison had assists.
Stars goalie John Perkins made 19 saves.
