SARTELL-Area tennis players reached the semifinals round of the Section 5A individual tournament on Thursday at the Sta-Fit Club.

Litchfield's Elise Bierbaum didn't drop a game in winning two matches, and she now faces Annandale's Jennah Groth in the semifinals on Tuesday.

New London-Spicer's Ava Hanson lost just two games in her two victories and she plays Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Swanville's Ally Ecker in the other 5A singles semifinal on Tuesday.

In doubles, Litchfield's Avery Stilwell and Shanna Kinny didn't drop a game in two victories and they play Annandale's Olivia Honsey and Faith Millner on Tuesday.

The winner of that doubles semi plays another pair of area doubles players. Litchfield's Laney Huhner and Vaida Behnke square off with New London-Spicer's Erin Loterbauer and Izzy Schmiesing in the other doubles semi on Tuesday.

Willmar remained atop the Central Lakes Conference standings with a three-set win over Fergus Falls on Thursday.

The Cardinals won 25-18, 25-15 and 25-22 to improve to 10-0 in the CLC and 17-5 overall.

Another balanced net game lifted the Cardinals. Grace Marti had a team-high nine kills, Sydney Olson and Bailey Olson both had six and Caitlin Ogdahl finished with five.

Marti also had three solo blocks.

Carly Wedel had 22 set assists and three kills.

The Cardinals play at road game against St. Cloud Apollo, currently in last place in the CLC, to wrap up the conference schedule at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta turned momentum around in the fifth set and upset West Central Conference rival Sauk Centre on Thursday in Sauk Centre.

Lexi Hockel led the Tigers with 19 kills, Bailey Marty had 15 kills and Lexi Pew drilled 13 kills.

Yellow Medicine East bumped its win streak up to 16 games in a five-set nail-biter, holding off Redwood Valley for a non-conference home victory on Thursday.

Meeghen Dahlager came up with a Sting-best 22 kills along with two ace serves and 15 digs. Mackenzie Dyrdahl added 17 kills, 15 digs and three ace blocks, and Madison Hinz moved the ball around with 44 set assists. Lily Jaenisch put the ball down with four of YME's 12 ace serves.
