Baseball roundup: Paynesville sweeps New London-Spicer in Legion doubleheader

Area baseball report for Thursday, July 7, 2022, in west central Minnesota. The Plums earn 1-0 and 3-1 victories at the Green Lake Diamonds. In other games, Glenwood-Lowry sweeps Long Prairie and BOLD defeats Prinsburg.

SPICER — Bennett Evans tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Paynesville Post 271 past New London-Spicer, 1-0, Thursday night in an American Legion baseball game.

Paynesville then completed the doubleheader sweep with a 3-1 victory in Game 2 at the Green Lake Diamonds.

In Game 1, Evans struck out six and walked one, allowing three hits.

The Plums scored their lone run in the second. Eli Nelson went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and Evans went 1-for-3 for Paynesville.

Grant Paffrath went the distance in the loss, going all seven innings. He struck out six and walked two, allowing one unearned run.

Eli Nelson went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and two stolen bases to help Paynesville beat New London-Spicer at the Green Lake Diamonds in Spicer.

Game 1: Glenwood-Lowry 10, Long Prairie 0

Dylan Alexander smacked two doubles and a home run, driving in three runs, to lead Glenwood-Lowry past Long Prairie in the first game of a doubleheader.

Hunter Johnson and Blake Andreas combined on a one-hitter. Johnson went the first six innings, allowing the hit. He struck out six and walked four. Andreas walked two in his one inning of work.

BOLD 10, Prinsburg 0

Ryland Gass and Caleb Weispfennig combined on a three-hitter to lead BOLD to the five-inning win over Prinsburg at Bird Island.

Gass went the first four innings, striking out six and walking no one. He allowed two hits. Wesipfennig pitched the fifth, allowing one hit.

BOLD scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the walk-off win because of the 10-run role.

BOLD led Prinsburg 2-0 after three innings when the game was called because of rain.

BOLD wraps up the regular season with a 2-8 record. BOLD is the third seed in its South Pod of its sub-state and plays at 7 p.m. Monday at No. 2 Redwood Falls. Prinsburg is the No. 4 seed and plays Monday at top-seeded Sacred Heart/MACCRAY.

Mike Jeseritz’s RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted Raymond to the Corn Belt League win over Granite Falls late Wednesday at Lilleberg Field in Raymond.

Paxton Nelson led off the bottom of the 12th with a double for the Rockets. He then scored on Jeseritz’s walk-off hit.

Nelson ended up 3-for-6 with two doubles and two runs. Eli Nelson was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Raymond.

John Sawatzky got the pitching victory with seven shutout innings of relief. He struck out eight, walked no one and allowed two hits.

Brandon Grund went 3-for-5 for the Kilowatts.
