WILLMAR - Strong pitching and timely hitting proved a winning recipe for the Willmar Stingers on Thursday.

Trevor Divinski pitched five-hit ball for seven innings and Gus Cunningham cleaned up in Willmar’s 6-1 win over Bismarck at Bill Taunton Stadium.

The stellar pitching helped bolster the six-run lead Stingers hitters spotted them in the first four innings.

In the second, Tyler Bosetti led off with a triple and scored on Justin King’s single. King eventually scored on a fielder’s choice.

Willmar added a run in the third when Brandon Bohning and Bosetti hit back-to-back singles and Daniel Walsh drove in Bohning with a sacrifice fly.

The Stingers made it 6-0 in the fourth on Bohning’s run-scoring double, King’s bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch that allowed Bohning to score the third run of the inning.

Cunningham allowed a Larks run in the eighth on Alex Peterson’s RBI single. He walked the leadoff man in the ninth but got three fly outs to end the game.

King was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Andrew Lucas, Walsh and Bohning, who also had two hits, all drove in runs. Bosetti was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

The Stingers and Larks play the second game of a two-game set at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Taunton.
