Post 1639 splits pair at Classic

SARTELL - Willmar VFW Post 1639 split two games at the Central Minnesota VFW Baseball Classic on Friday.

Willmar lost its opener to Maple Grove 8-6 but rebounded to down St. Cloud West 5-1 in the losers bracket.

Post 1639 plays at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Sartell and, with a win, would play for the consolation championship at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Against St. Cloud West, Dalton Ogdahl worked six innings, allowing a run on five hits and striking out nine.

Ashton Gregory had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and Tanner Bauman was 2-for-3 with a double and he scored a run. Jon Volk doubled and drove in two runs.

In Friday's first game against Maple Grove, Willmar's Dalton Ogdahl had two hits and drove in three runs and Dylan Arndorfer had two hits and drove in two runs. Jett Solanek doubled and drove in a run.

Duluth jumped on Willmar's pitching early and made a big lead hold in a Northwoods League game on Friday at Wade Stadium in Duluth.

The Huskies scored four first-inning runs, added one in the second and tacked on four more in the fourth to take a commanding 9-3 lead.

Willmar chipped away but couldn't catch up.

Mike Danielson homered and drove in three runs, Wyatt White doubled three times and scored twice and Patrick Courtney worked a complete game as New London-Spicer won on the road in Milroy on Friday night.

Austen Hadley, Scott Rambow, John Perkins and Ben Kulset all had two hits as the Twins ripped 15 hits off the Yankees.

Andrew Toop outdueled three Raymond pitchers as Starbuck downed the Rockets on Friday in Raymond.

Toop surrendered two unearned runs in the first and followed with eight scoreless innings. Michael Gruber doubled and drove in a run and he scored twice. Mike Andreas and Austin Versteeg also drove in runs.

Raymond's Justin Koenen and Brett Swanson both doubled.

Parkers Prairie's Alex Koep singled in Hunter Haggermiller with the winning run in a Section 6A elimination game against BBE on Friday at Minnewaska High School.

Parkers Prairie trailed 6-0 heading into the the bottom of the sixth inning, but scored eight runs in the inning to take the lead.

BBE kept the game alive scoring two runs in the top of the seventh.

BBE's Ashton Dingmann was 3-for-3 and drove in two runs and Ryan Illies hit a home run and a double. Evan Weiner also had three hits and an RBI.
