Stingers pitching stifles Express

WILLMAR - Jonathan McKinney and Jake Marsh teamed up on a pitching gem and the Willmar Stingers defeated Eau Claire 3-1 in a Northwoods League game on Wednesday at Bill Taunton Stadium.

The Stingers won their second-straight and play host to Thunder Bay at 7:05 p.m. Thursday before playing their annual game in Alexandria, against the Border Cats, at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Knute Nelson Field.

On Wednesday, Richie Garcia, Jayson Newman and Calvin Estrada all drove in runs without the benefit of a hit in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Despite the relative lack of offense, those runs were plenty for McKinney and Marsh.

McKinney worked 5-2/3 innings, allowing a run on four hits. Marsh cleaned up the final 3-1/3 innings, allowing just a hit and a couple of walks while striking out two.

The Stingers' John Trousdale had two hits and scored a run, and Caleb Ricca, Tyler Reichenborn and Brett Bello had Willmar's other hits. Reichenborn and Bello also scored runs.
