NWL Baseball: Stingers outslug Border Cats

ALEXANDRIA - Willmar scored multiple runs in four innings and outdueled Thunder Bay 10-7 in a Northwoods League game played at a former league park, Knute Nelson Stadium, on Friday.

The Stingers scored nine runs in the first six innings and relievers Braxton Johns and Jake Drew pitched four scoreless innings to keep the Border Cats at bay.

Bonk got the win and Drew the save.

Five of Willmar’s 13 hits went for extra bases. Jaxon Hallmark hit two triples and drove in two runs, Jayson Newman also tripled and drove in three runs, Caleb Ricca had three hits, including a double, drove in two and scored three times.

Matt Rudick, John Trousdale and Tyler Reichenborn all had two hits and scored two runs.

The Stingers travel to Mankato for a Saturday game before returning to Willmar to play Mankato on Sunday.
