Stingers scratch out win

BISMARCK - The Willmar Stingers scratched three runs across in the fifth inning to take the lead and put one back in the win column with a 4-2 win against Bismarck Tuesday night.

Caleb Ricca tied things up with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning but that quickly became a 2-1 lead after a fielding error by Bismarck right fielder Dylan Rock allowed Jaxon Hallmark to score.

Willmar right fielder Nic Hernandez pushed the game to 3-1 with an RBI single that allowed left fielder Matt Rudick to score. Rudick led the Stingers with four hits and scored a fourth run in the ninth inning to add some insurance.

The Stingers tallied 13 hits in the game but the pitching staff was just as strong, allowing just four hits to Lark batters. Trevor Divinski started the game and allowed three of those hits to earn the win. Bismarck scratched runs across in the fourth and sixth innings but he was otherwise in charge. Jake Marsh tossed a quick seventh inning, allowing just one hit, and Jayson Newman removed the designated hitter tag from the lineup card and pitched the final two innings to earn the save. He also went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the game.

Willmar will look to make it a sweep when they take on the Larks at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday in Bismarck.
